About UPSC – IAS Exam

Indian Administrative Service (IAS) was formerly known as the Imperial Civil Service (ICS) is the Civil Services Examination and one of the toughest competitive exams in India. It is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for the recruitment of officers for the All India Administrative Civil Service.

Candidates who clear all the three stages of the IAS exam enter into the prestigious civil services of the country, and become officers in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and a host of other services. Indian Administrative Service (IAS) has been termed as one of the prestigious services among the 24 government services like IPS, IFS (Foreign), IFS (Forest), IP & TAFS, IAAS, IRS, IDAS, CMSE, IRTS, IRAS, IRPS, CAPF-AF to name a few. The Above Mentioned Examinations are conducted by UPSC in the form of Civil Services Examination (CSE) for selecting the appropriate candidates for the jobs.

The Exam Pattern

Stage I: Preliminary Examination (IAS Prelims)

Stage II: Mains Examination (IAS Mains)

Stage III: UPSC Personality Test (IAS Interview)

UPSC examination is conducted in three phases - a preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper-II also popularly known as Civil Service Aptitude Test or CSAT), and a main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay) type, in which two papers are qualifying and only marks of seven are counted followed by a personality test (interview).

The candidates can select their medium of writing the UPSC Civil Services IAS Mains Exam as Hindi or English or any other language listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The UPSC personality test will be held only in the UPSC Bhavan in New Delhi.

The final ranking of the candidates is based on the marks obtained by them in the Main Examination and Personality Test/Interview Round of the IAS exam.

Exam Eligibility

● Candidate must be a citizen of India

● Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree from any of the recognized universities and those who are awaiting results or those who are yet to appear for the qualifying examination are also eligible for the Preliminary Examination.

● A candidate should be a minimum of 21 years and a maximum of 32 years old as of August 01, 2020.

Exam Fee

Candidates can make the payment through online or offline mode For online payment, candidates may use a credit card/debit card/Rupay card or Internet Banking Services.

For offline payment, download the e-challan and submit the fee in cash at SBI bank branches on the next day itself. The detailed Application Form Fee for examination is INR 100.

After fee payment, download and save the filled-in IAS 2021 Application Form. Female applicants and SC/ST/ PWD category candidates are exempted from paying the fee.

How to Apply

Step 1: Visit the official site of UPSC – www.upsc.gov.in

Step 2: Go to the ''Apply Online'' tab. Click on ''Online Application for Various Examinations'' Find the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination Start IAS registration with Part-I.

Step 3: Fill-up the personal details, educational qualification, and address.

Step 4: Pay the prescribed application fee (Rs 100) Choose the exam center Upload the photo, sign, and photo identity card.

Step 5: Accept the declaration. Check the complete details and submit and take a printout of the IAS application form for future reference.
