The Civil Services refer to those career bureaucrats of the Republic of India who are known to form the backbone of the administrative mechanism of the country. To get selected for these services, the Union Public Service Commission conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE), simply referred to as UPSC exam, a nationwide competitive examination in India. This examination is considered to be one of the most difficult examinations in India. If an aspirant successfully passes the exam, one can expect a placement in various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).
