An engineering first-year student studying at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her house in Ajay Thanda in Nelakondapalli Mandal of the district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Tejavath Sandhya (18). She came to her native place a few weeks ago as holidays were announced in view of the lockdown. She was a first-year Student in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering branch.
The girl’s parents, T Rama Rao and Sujatha who returned home in the evening after attending NREGS works found their daughter hanging from the ceiling fan. They immediately rushed her to Nelakondapalli government hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
Nelakondapalli Sub-Inspector of Police Ashok Reddy visited the spot and booked a case in connection with the incident. The reasons for the extreme step by the girl were not known and investigation into the incident was launched, he said.
